Evening Printmaking Demo
Thursday 22 August 2013, 6 – 7:30pm
Join us on Thursday 22 August at 6pm for a fantastic and rare opportunity to see a printmaking demo with our master printmaker Michael Waight.
Michael will be working on a Frances Walker copperplate etching, Crossing to Finlaggan, a version of which can be seen in the current exhibition Artists in Print: 21 Years of Collaboration
You will be introduced to the etching technique by watching Michael demonstrate scratching an image into a copperplate covered with hard ground. This plate will be dipped into an acid bath, then the hard ground will be removed, allowing you to see a plate ready to be inked and run through the press.
Michael will then use the ready etched Frances Walker copperplate to demonstrate the techniques involved with inking up a plate and running it through the press.
Proofs documenting the progression of Crossing to Finlaggan; ranging from the first pencil drawings, right up to the current print; will also be shown in the workshop.
