Todays look back comes courtesy of our 2009 book ’35 Years of Great Stuff!’.

For this publication 35 of the people who founded us, who made work with us, supported us and championed the arts in the North-East over the years were asked to select a print made with us and to explain why they chose it. This one was chosen by the then Head of Printmaking at Gray’s School of Art and no stranger to our workshop Lennox Dunbar.

‘Untitled’ by Hélène Delprat
1984, Etching.

“The French artist, Hélène Delprat was commissioned to produce this print as part of the ‘Colour Since Matisse’ exhibition that was on show at the RSA in Edinburgh. She arrived at Peacock with Claude Viallet and I have chosen it because it marked the beginning of what was to become an international reputation for Fine Art publication at Peacock. While I worked with her on the separations and platemaking, she produced an additional 7 relief prints over a period of two days while the plates were being etched. Truly inspirational – I can still smell the Gauloise in the workshop.”
